The 18th International Conference of Baltic countries “Teaching Mathematics: Retrospectives and Perspectives” was held in Ŗiga, Latvia on 12-13 May 2017 and this year it was organized by the University of Latvia.
Since the engagement in NorBa project ( https://norbal.wordpress.com/) dealing with comparative research on mathematics education, it was the fourth conference “Teaching Mathematics: Retrospectives and Perpectives” attended by ISE professor Anita Pipere. As usually, this conference provided a venue for the plenary presentations and paper presentation sessions on the most urgent topics in mathematics education. At this conference Anita Pipere presented the paper “THE MATHEMATICS ACHIEVEMENT IN GRADE 9TH: TESTING PREDICTABILITY GRADIENT HYPOTHESIS” based on the research co-authored with Inta Mieriņa from the University of Latvia. This year hot discussions were rised by the plenary speech presented by Dace Namsone “Competency-Based Education” having repercussions in several other paper sessions.
Conference was attended also by representatives of other departments of Daugavpils University: professor Elfrīda Krastiņa (Faculty of Education and Management), senior research fellow Pēteris Daugulis (Institute of Life Sciences and Technology), and docent Anita Sondore (Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics).
