Dzintra Iliško, director of the Institute of Sustainable Education at Daugavpils University participated in the international conference “Education for Sustainable Development and Globalization: Implementation of UNESCO Strategy for the Second Half of the Decade of Education for Sustainable Development” in Moscow on December 7-8, 2010.
The conference focused on exploring the achievements and best experiences from the first half of UN Decade and identifying future perspectives. Dzintra Iliško shared the experience of the Institute of Sustainable Education in reorienting teacher education towards the aim of sustainable development in accordance with the implementation of the aims set for the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014). In 2010, the experience of the Institute of Sustainable Education was once again recognised by UNESCO as one of the few bright examples of successful and creative implementation of the aims of UN Decade in higher education. The conference tool place in close cooperation with the Latvian National Commission for UNESCO, the representative of UNESCO Latvian National Commission Programmes, Baiba Molnika who also attended the conference in Moscow. As the outcome of the conference, the participants prepared the final document of round table entitled “Role of UNESCO Chairs on Education for Sustainable Development in the Implementation of UNESCO Strategy for the Second Half of the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development.”
