Background of Conference
We are proud to announce the third international conference of JTET (Journal of Teacher Education and Training) and North-East European Regional Sub-Network for "Reorientation of Teacher Education to Address Sustainability". "Sustainable Development, Culture and Education" organized by the University of Vechta. The conference is hosted by eight universities: the Tallin Pedagogical University (Estonia), the Daugavpils University (Latvia), the Vilnius University (Lithuania), the University of Tartu (Estonia), the University of Joensuu (Finland), the University of Vechta (Germany), the Rhodes University (South Africa), and the York University (Canada). The conference will take place in Vechta, Germany in May 2005.
Beside the further cooperation and the publication of the JTET Volume, the conference will deepen the exchange of experiences. Furthermore, the contacts to the school projects of the Baltic-Sea-Contract countries should be intensified. The experiences of the last conferences have shown that, although joint goals are shared, a more or less different interpretation of holistic education exists in different countries. We think of working out and discussing the differences and common features of the term holistic education as an enrichment.
The topic of the conference will be holistic education. On the first day, several contributions and concepts of various disciplines will be presented to us. On the second day, practical examples or examples out of school and research will be discussed. The third day with the background of the first two days, will give the possibility, in various assembled groups, to exchange experiences and possible draft projects and tasks for the future.
